Jimmy's weblog

Since you are my readers, and I have not been much of a traveller, I will not talk about people a thousand miles off, but come as near home as I can. As the time is short, I will leave out all the flattery, and retain all the criticism. — Henry David Thoreau

The Australian Labor Party (ALP)

The first of my Australian political party website reviews - better late than never!

Friday September 24, 2004 07:27

As Australian taxpayers, we all contribute towards the running costs of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), therefore we should all be entitled to have reasonable access to their recorded material, right?
Well yes, up to a point. As long as you aren’t making a documentary which might upset those in power.
Judy Rymer was refused permission [...]

Wednesday September 22, 2004 07:56

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) appear to be having a battle to see is capable of generating the worst reputation. Blogger’s service is a fantastic one but I’ve become frustrated [...]

Apples and methylated spirits CAN mix

Tuesday August 10, 2004 12:35

Who says you can’t mix Apples and methylated spirits?
Feeling a little dopey after a bad night’s sleep last night, I managed to spill a good deal of methylated spirits over the keyboard and display of my running Apple laptop (don’t ask how). After a panicked removal of the battery and a thorough wipedown, I [...]

How fast can you type?

Thursday August 5, 2004 07:28

Inspired by a Slashdot story about learning touch typing at school, I decided to check my own typing skills.
During high school I was forced to suffer through six months of touch typing; classes I absolutely hated at the time but that have been very valuable in the years since. It seems that the six [...]

Airport Express has arrived

Thursday July 29, 2004 18:39

Nearly nine weeks after I placed the order, my Airport Express base station has arrived. For those who haven’t heard, Airport Express is Apple’s new networking solution which uses 802.11G to provide 54mb/sec wireless connections. It also allows you to share a USB printer and stream audio to your stereo from iTunes.
