Just watching the Melbourne versus Essendon AFL game, billed as a tribute to Melbourne’s Troy Broadbridge who died in the Boxing Day tsunami, and reported as having Trisha Broadbridge (Troy’s widow) toss the coin at the start of the game.
Did anyone else notice who actually tossed the coin? Unless I’m drunker than I figure, [...]

Around the bay in a day
Monday October 18, 2004 07:43
“It’s 120kms return to Mount Eliza. We got a full tank of bananas, half a pack of Goo, it’s (nearly) dark and we’re wearing sunglasses! Hit it!”
And so began Sunday, 17 October, with nearly 9,000 cyclists braving the early morning darkness and chill for the annual Around the Bay in a Day. [...]

HECS for athletes?
Monday September 27, 2004 12:30
Until the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS) was introduced in 1988, university education was free in Australia. Now the idea of individuals contributing directly towards their eduction is generally accepted, and the debate has moved on to how high the fees should be.

Three-peat in the making?
Friday October 3, 2003 17:48
The Three-peat is on, said Collingwood President Eddie McGuire, shortly after his side lost Saturday’s Grand Final to the Brisbane Lions. “No other side, let alone any other Collingwood side, has lost three Grand Finals in a row- we are already aiming to achieve this unique record in 2004.”
When asked what improvements to the side [...]

A weekend of three-in-a-rows
Monday September 29, 2003 20:50
The AFL Grand Final weekend produced a magnificent victory for the Brisbane Lions over the Collingwood Magpies. Despite going in as underdogs, the Lions never looked like losing as they led from the first score to the last to win their third premiership in a row - a feat not seen in fifty years.
The [...]
