Jimmy's weblog

Since you are my readers, and I have not been much of a traveller, I will not talk about people a thousand miles off, but come as near home as I can. As the time is short, I will leave out all the flattery, and retain all the criticism. — Henry David Thoreau

Welcome to Ireland

Thursday December 16, 2004 23:06

The last two weeks have sure been long and emotional ones. December 6 - 9 saw me teaching a five half day course on using Linux as a server operating system, while December 10 saw me on a plane from Australia to Ireland at very short notice, heading towards an Irish wake and funeral service.

Until January 5 I’ll be in Ireland, largely in Belturbet, a small town in County Cavan, about two hours north-east of Dublin. Life here is cold, dark and about as far from city living as you can imagine.

Ireland is commonly known as the "Celtic Tiger" due to its recent technological growth, but here in Belturbet Internet access is difficult to find and slow when you can finally log on. As a result my posting may not be as frequent as I’d like but I will try to upload photos and write a brief commentary as often as I can.

the pictures are of Staghall church in Drumlane parish which is near Belturbet, but Belturbet has a different church in the centre of the town, its a different parish too.
