Primus Telecom today announced the release of their new high-speed ADSL broadband plans. Up to four times faster than the current maximum speed, the plans are priced extremely competitively: $29.95 per month for the 400MB plan and $49.95 per month for 12GB. Speeds range from a minimum of 2Mb/s to a maximum of 6Mb/s depending on line conditions between the exchange and customers.
Until today, I’ve been a happy Internode customer but I will be moving to Primus immediately - in fact I’ve already requested the disconnection of my existing connection. Not only is the speed faster than my current 1.5Mb/s, my monthly bill will be almost cut in half.
If you’re considering rushing to sign up, be warned. You must live within 1.5km of a Primus enabled exchange. Living in the Melbourne CBD means I have no problem there.
So how can Primus offer a much faster connection at a much slower price? “We’re using our own equipment and don’t have to pay the Telstra tax”.
