I only managed to watch a small part of the second US presidential debate so I can’t comment on who won or lost. Media reports suggest the debate was a tie while the left and right wing blogs generally give the debate to their candidate (no surprises there).
Mystery Pollster points out that media coverage has overlooked the fact that a majority of independents believe that Kerry won the debate. It seems Bush impressed Republicans while Kerry reached out to more undecided voters.
However, most of the coverage has overlooked the fact that independents perceived Kerry as the winner on all three surveys:
- Gallup - “Who do you think did a better job in the debate?” Kerry 53%, Bush 37%
- ABC News - “Who, in your opinion, won the debate?” Kerry 44%, Bush 34%
- Democracy Corps - “Who would you say won the debate?” Kerry 44%, Bush 33%
