Since you are my readers, and I have not been much of a traveller, I will not talk about people a thousand miles off, but come as near home as I can. As the time is short, I will leave out all the flattery, and retain all the criticism. — Henry David Thoreau

Can I borrow your economist?

Thursday September 30, 2004 12:19

The suspicion I had that any credible economist would have already drowned in the deluge of election spending has just been confirmed.

Announcing a plan to spend $49 million to help volunteer groups and local councils deal with major disasters, Attorney-General, Philip Ruddock, claimed the net benefit of the program would be $12 billion per year.

Pardon??? $49 million spent over four years can result in a benefit of $12 billion per year? And the coalition claim that Labor aren’t credible economic managers.
