Blog software change

Tuesday September 21, 2004 07:45

I’ve been very quiet on the posting front for the last week or so - rest assured that I have a valid reason. Most of my spare time has been spent working on moving from Blogger’s free service over to the open source Wordpress software.

Blogger’s service is a fantastic one but I’ve become frustrated with its limitations and the fact that you rely on the Blogger server which seems to have become unreliable in the last couple of weeks.

The templates Blogger uses are very good, so one of my primary aims has been to keep the same design for the site, as well as retaining existing URLs for links to the site. I think I’ve now sorted both of these out, so I’ll be swapping over to Wordpress in the next day or so. I’ll also be posting about how I modifed the templates and the Apache mod_rewrite rules that I am using to keep existing links working.

don’t forget to post on how you tweaked the templates etc. looks like a good job.

I’m planning to post on the templates - it was actually easier than I thought and mainly involved modifying only one Wordpress file.
