Melbourne’s Spring weather is always unpredictable, rarely staying stable for more than an hour or two. Today was no exception. Wind and rain direct from Antarctica, combined with the odd burst of glorious sunshine, led to difficulties in deciding whether it was an indoor or an outdoor day.
In other words, a perfect day for a ride on an restored steam train. Half an hour outside (at the station), half an hour inside (on the train), and just enough activity to make you feel that you hadn’t wasted a precious Sunday.
To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Victoria’s railways, Steamrail Victoria was running a shuttle service from Flinders Street to Sunshine in one direction and Caufield in the other. Just $2 for a return adult trip meant it was cheaper than catching regular public transport and a lot more fun.
The six year old child in me can now rest happily for the next six months…
