Apples and methylated spirits CAN mix

Tuesday August 10, 2004 12:35

Who says you can’t mix Apples and methylated spirits?

Feeling a little dopey after a bad night’s sleep last night, I managed to spill a good deal of methylated spirits over the keyboard and display of my running Apple laptop (don’t ask how). After a panicked removal of the battery and a thorough wipedown, I left the laptop to dry for an hour or so.

After taking a few deep breaths (and inhaling a rather strong smell of metho at the same time), I restarted the machine. It took longer than normal to boot but now appears to working with no problems. The rational side of my brain says the delay was due to a disk integrity check but it certainly didn’t help my nerves at the time.

I wouldn’t recommend this laptop durability check to others…
